First Step & Second Chance Acts Eligibility

With the recent policy change, thousands of Federal inmates are eligible for early release. With the passage of the First Step and Second Chance Acts Congress sought to incentivize inmates who takes steps, while in custody, to better their lives. Under the Acts inmates are eligible to receive time off their sentence for completing various institutional programs and can receive up to one year placement in a half-way house.
The decision as to how much time an inmate gets off their sentence or how long they are placed in a half-way house is up to the discretion of the BOP. To assist the BOP in making the most informed decision, McCracken Stoll & Associates can prepare an eligibility packet and forward to the BOP to aide in their consideration. We can also assist in the administrative appeal of any denial of First Step or Second Chance Act eligibility.
